France

Best of France

We visited France for 6 days starting on November 2, 2014, making stops in Paris and Bordeaux. We entered the country by bus coming from London and got transported inside a giant train containing many other vehicles through the underwater tunnel that connects Britain with mainland Europe. France was country number 50 we had visited in our first world trip and there we were able to purchase new shoes, pants, and socks to last the rest of the journey, hopefully. šŸ™‚

Paris is a city to wonder and to love, where we enjoyed crossing romantic bridges to reach the Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame. Paris is outstanding city with charm, history, and elegance, just like the Eiffel tower, gorgeous to gaze at during the day and sparkling with lights at night. We got to visit the underground Catacombes and felt in shocked by the millions of human bones resting there in a creative display. In Paris, we were playing to give each other “French kisses,” and we tasted cheeses, wines, and sweet and salty crepes, despite the high prices. It was like being in paradise. Gisela loves croissants and we were excited to learn that the shape of the bread means they have been made with butter (straight shape) or margarine (half-moon shape), genius! We also visited Bordeaux, a city of ancient architecture and delicious wines. We were happy and safe to cycle everywhere around this city. Eating seafood and drinking wine for lunch at the local market on Saturday was a delight we will never forget.

We left France wanting more and more, and with the firm conviction of having to come back!
