Expenses
Below are our expenses and how they compared to our budget (in USD):
Cost of Transportation: $1,406 versus Budgeted: $400
Cost of Visa: $0 versus Budgeted: $280
Cost per day: $34 versus Budgeted: $54
We entered into Chile in two separate occasions due to unexpected change of plans and required that we do some backtracking. This caused some additional expenses in transportation, but the major economic set-back was the ferry we decided to take in the Patagonia, which was 65% of the transportation budget, basically the amount we went over budget. We made great use of our dual citizenship and used our Latin American passport to avoid a visa fee, although since our visa research the visa process for people holding US passports has changed and they no longer charge for a visa. We also were able to spend a lot less in our daily expenses since we did some volunteer work in a farm where we had minimal expenses. We did spend almost three times as many days than anticipated, which along with the Patagonia ferry, led to being over budget by 87% in our overall country budget.
