Below are our expenses and how they compared to our budget (in USD):
Cost of Transportation: $1,086 versus Budgeted: $200
Cost per day: $55 versus Budgeted: $185
There is no doubt that our visit to the Galapagos Islands was the largest expense in the country and maybe in our trip, if we lump it into one activity. We mistakenly did not factor in the flights of getting into the islands in our original budget, which accounts for 71% of the transportation budget, which is the amount we were over budgeted. We did manage to decrease our daily expenses because or stay in a community where we volunteered and minimized our costs. The Galapagos Island visit accounted for 78% of the expenses in the country and led us to being 19% over budget in our overall country budget, which was not terrible considering we spent almost three times as many days as anticipated.
