Cost of Transportation: $153 versus Budgeted: $300
Cost of Visa: $49 versus Budgeted: $30
Cost per day: $54 versus Budgeted: $72
The recent revolution in Egypt has scared away many tourists and it shows on the prices of many day-to-day activities, but the government run museums and temples are still quite expensive. We were able to save on the cost per day and the transportation due to this non-tourist phenomenon and that we were able to meet new friends that hosted us. We did pay a little premium to get our visa before arriving. And as the trend has been going, we spent a little more time in the country than expected, but we were fortunate to only go over budget by 3% in Egypt.
