Below are our expenses and how they compared to our budget (in USD):
Cost of Transportation: $193 versus Budgeted: $400
Cost per day: $57 versus Budgeted: $115
Germany was surprisingly less expensive than anticipated, at least in terms of food and especially beer! It was possible to find relatively affordable foreign food, which helped in the daily costs. The lower food expenses and the fact that we did not pay one night of accommodation, thanks to friends and CouchSurfing, we were able to save on our daily expenses. We were also able to save on transportation expenses by using buses instead of the more expensive trains that we had budgeted for. Overall, we were able to save 55% of the total budget for the country.
