Kenya

Sights and Activities

Below are the places we saw and activities completed while visiting Kenya:

Naivasha
  • Lake Naivasha: we were fortunate to stay within steps of the lake, but even more fortunate to water ski on it! It was both our first time and we were somewhat able to get the hang of it, even though Gisela used her butt to ski. We enjoyed the day in the water so much that the thought of being in the hippo-infested lake never crossed our minds. We ended our lakeside experience by playing volleyball with new friends.

  • Hell’s Gate National Park: we took a short game drive through the gorge that runs through the heart of the park passing by a volcanic column named Fischer’s Tower. Then starting at the Central Tower, an unusual volcanic column, we hiked in the lower gorge canyon. This narrow ravine has been sculpted by water for many years and provides marvelous views of the rock formations. We passed several small streams of cold and sulfur, hot water. We ended our adventure in the park by taking a dip in the hot water pools, a great way to end our visit to this unique National Park.

Nairobi
  • Nairobi National Museum: one of the better museums we have visited in Africa, the exhibits included a life-sized fiberglass model of a massive elephant who was placed under 24-hour guard by late president Jomo Kenyatta, a bird exhibition, mammals of East Africa, a prehistoric display with an extraordinary collection of skulls, ethnological artefacts from Kenya’s various tribal groups, and a modern history exhibit.

Cook-Surfing Food
  • Cook-Surfing: through CouchSurfing we were fortunate to be invited to a cooking event where we met many people from different countries. The idea of the gathering was to share food from different countries and it was a great success, we enjoyed food from Europe, different parts of Africa, and of course from Latin America.
