Below are our expenses and how they compared to our budget (in USD):
Cost of Transportation: $61 versus Budgeted: $200
Cost of Visa: $100 versus Budgeted: $100
Cost per day: $54 versus Budgeted: $69
This was the first African country with a significant savings even though we spent twice as long as anticipated. We were able to spend less in transportation and in our daily expenses due to two reasons: first we decided just to relax and not do too many touristy activities; the second was that the Ethiopian Embassy did not give us the visa to go overland, therefore did not travel overland to the north of Kenya. We were able to save 34% of the overall budget in the country.
