George Town, Penang

Red Garden Food Paradise and Night Market: Had dinner at this outdoor food market
Church of the Assumption, St George’s Church: Catholic Churches we saw while walking in the city
Penang State Museum: museum of the local people and all the different cultures and religions that have settled in Penang
Fort Cornwallis: built by European settlers in the 1700’s
Kuan Yin Teng Chinese Temple: walked by this Buddhist temple
Pinang Peranakan Mansion: a typical affluent Baba (15th and 16th century immigrants) house re-created to allow visitors a glimpse of their traditional lifestyle
Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple: saw from the temple from the outside
Kapitan Keling Mosque: we unfortunately got to the mosque late and did not enter, but were able to see it from the outside
Yap Kongsi Temple: saw from the outside
Khoo Kongsi Chinese Clan House: This kongsi (clan house) is a building that’s used partly as a temple and partly as a meeting hall for Chinese people of the same clan or surname. The kongsi is decorated with a colorful mix of dragons, statues, paintings, lamps, colored tiles and carvings.

Took a funicular tram to the top of the Penang Hill

Sri Aruloli Thirumurugan Temple
Kuala Lumpur
Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple: we were able to enter the oldest Hindu temple in Malaysia
Sze Ya Taoist Temple
Merdeka Square: a big grassy area where they used to play cricket and now surrounded by colonial architecture
Masjid Jamek Mosque: the mosque is undergoing renovation, but we were able to see a glimpse of the domes
National Museum: museum about Malaysia’s history, economy, arts, crafts, and culture
Orang Asli Craft Museum: museum about the original native people of Malaysia, we later were able to interact and learn more about Orang Asli
Masjid Negara Mosque: we were able to enter one of Southeast Asia’s largest mosques
Menara Kuala Lumpur Tower: were able to view this tower from various areas around Kuala Lumpur
Chow Kit Market: walked through the labyrinth, outdoor aisles of tropical fruit, meats, fish, and much more
Petronas Towers: gazed at the beautiful twin towers
