We had quite a few plan changes that caused us to be 275% over budget in Nepal. The first was flying into Nepal instead of going through Tibet, China by land. This was a decision we made due to the political situation, cost, and complications of entering Tibet. We bought an external flight from Hanoi, Vietnam to Kathmandu, Nepal that was not part of the budget. The second reason for being over budget was the choice of doing the Everest Base Camp trek, which was also not part of our original plan. This caused us to obtain a longer, more expensive visa and buy an internal flight for this activity. We also spent twice as many days than anticipated in the country due to the trek. Since we did not spend the time and money we were planning to use in Tibet, we can transfer it to Nepal’s budget and this would help us to be perfectly on budget for this country.
