Best of Spain
We visited Spain twice for a total of 26 days. We entered through the border with France on November 9, 2014 and stayed in Pamplona for 4 days and on November 18, 2014 after spending some days in Portugal, we headed towards the south and settled in Garrucha for 3 weeks. During our pleasant stay in the Iberica Peninsula we got to enjoy Pamplona, San Sebastian, Madrid, Malaga, and Garrucha. Garrucha is a small and pacific Andalusian town by the Mediterranean Sea where some of Gisela’s family lives.
Pamplona is a well preserved city where modernity and tradition meet. Their variety of tapas and the possibility to learn about the world famous San Fermin Festival kept us entertained. On a day trip we visited San Sebastian, a gorgeous city with a spectacular bay that resembles pictures from Rio de Janeiro. On our second time in the country, we made a day stop in Madrid and wondered for a few hours from Plaza del Sol to Parque del Retiro. We have been to Spain on previous occasions, but this time around our main purpose was to relax and enjoy quality time with our family in Andalusia. While we were in the south, Sal’s cousin, Salvador Pineda from Honduras, was working on a cruise ship that stopped for a day in Malaga, so we made the trip to meet him. It was an exciting reunion after 8 years without seeing each other. In Garrucha, we cooked, ate, and tasted delicious Spanish food. We followed the tradition of going for drinks and tapas before lunch almost every day. We talked, laughed, and hugged our family and friends, some of which we have not seen for almost 4 years. We extended our stay from two weeks to three to be able to finally recover from a skin parasite, scabies, tormenting us for months and recuperated our energy to continue traveling.
Life in Spain is as good as it can ever be and we cannot wait to be back!
