We originally did not anticipate to fly into Turkey, but since we changed our direction of travel and the circumstance in Syria did not allow us to go over land, we decided to purchase an air ticket. We did not have a budget for a flight, but we had a big enough transportation budget to incur the costs. In fact, the majority of our savings in the country came from transportation budget. We were also able to save on the cost of the visa by using our Latin American passport, which did not have a fee, versus using our US passport. The savings in our daily expenses was also significant because we found some inexpensive camping and we had hosts in some of the cities. Our total savings for the country was 33% of our budget.
