Austria

Best of Austria

We visited Vienna 3 days starting July 30, 2014 and although our stop in this country was brief, and left behind much to see, we enjoyed it to the fullest. Vienna is a city full of history where revolutionary and talented men like Mozart, Beethoven, Sigmund Freud, Gustav Klimt, and Hundertwasser found home in their time. Vienna is a city with impressive, old architecture that survived or was restored after the Second World War.

Excellent public transportation system connecting the city allowed us to navigate like fish in fresh water. We loved Vienna’s famous coffee shops with their delicious pastries to sweeten our day. We got to visit the Freud Museum located in the apartment in which he lived with his family and offered treatment to so many patients until the Second World War in 1938 in which he went into exile to United Kingdom. We discovered Hundertwasser’s architecture and felt fascinated with his beautiful style. The incorporation of trees and gardens inside colorful and asymmetrical structures, mostly made out of recycled materials, for daily living were simply amazing!

Our days in Vienna were a trip to the past and enjoyment of the present. Our friend Dan and her children made sure we tasted every aspect of their city in our little time there. One night, we went salsa dancing by the river with many lovers of the latin scene from all over the world. We also enjoyed Austrian’s wines and food, including their famous schnitzel. Another night, we watched the film of the famous opera of Madame Butterfly at the outdoors Summer Film Festival of Vienna, which was free of charge for everyone. Without a doubt Vienna is a multifaceted city full of life and art to enjoy, we cannot wait to be back!
